Welcome to the History of Graham House at the

University of Chicago.

Max P Central Residential Hall

Graham House opened on January 3rd, 2002 with the Grand opening of Max Palevsky Central and Max P West.

Perhaps the most apt way of describing the early days concisly is "new."

For a full year, until 2003, this exciting house located on the third and fourth floors of Max P Central was simply known as "new house", not even officially granted a name until residents had alreadly made a reputation for themselves.

We are now very proud to bear the name of Katherine Graham, a Univeristy of Chicago alumni who was the editor of the Washington Post in the midst of the Watergate scandle discovery.

In their House’s first full year, 2002-2003, early Grahamites waged and won many battles against other houses in IM sports.

Their football, volleyball, softball, innertube waterpolo, and soccer teams admitted no competition and are now feared worldwide.

Last year's house set new records for house spirit and unity despite a couple months of civil strife that resulted in the formation of a second “New House.”

Together, Graham house and New House form the best community on campus.

Presidential Debates!

Among the numerous traditions that Graham House's short existance has spawned are the Presidential Debates during the first week of the school year.

This is a time for the house presidential candidates have an opportunity to answer questions from the residents and for the voters to gain an idea of their stance on various issues.

Other traditions include an annual service auction fundraiser, an annual ski trip to Wisconson, anda friendly rivalry with Woodward House.

One item often considered tradition, but which in reality is simply a fact of life for the University of Chicago is our uncompromising domination in intermural sports.
